  Instructions for Internet Explorer 5.5

Browser Settings

Testing

IE 5.5

IE 6.0

  • Start Internet Explorer and select tools on the menu bar

  • Select "Internet Options"

  • Your page may look slightly different, that is ok
  • Click on the "Connections" tab at the top

  • Once again, your screen may look slightly different.
  • Click on the "LAN Settings..." button near the bottom

  • Now, make sure that the check is placed next to "Automatically detect settings" as shown above.
  • Now, click ok until all of the dialog boxes are closed, close Internet Explorer, then restart it.  You are now ready to connect.
  • For the more advanced, if you wish, you may leave the automatic detection turned off, and alternately use a configuration script.  The script will be "http://wpad/wpad.dat" (without the quotes).
  • Either way you choose will work.  Click here to see what that looks like.

Testing

  • To test the settings and proper operation of the browser, you can enter "http://wpad/wpad.dat" (without the quotes) in the address bar of your browser.  A dialog box will ask you to download the file.  You do not need to do that, just the dialog box appearing is evidence that your browser is properly configured.
